Q: When does the soccer season begin?
A: We offer two seasons a year.
Spring Season:
Registration is from January 1st to March 1st. Spring practices typically begin the first week of April. Spring games start mid-April and go until Late May (6 games).
Fall Season:
Registration is from May 1st to July 1st. Fall practices typically begin in early August. Fall games start in late August and go until mid-October (8 games).
Q. How do I register my child for soccer?
A. We use the Oxford Parks and Recreation Department for player registration. Registration can be done online at https://oprd.recdesk.com/Community/Program (search "Say")
or in person at the Tri located at 6015 Fairfield Rd Oxford, OH 45056 (513)523-6314.
Q. What days can I expect practices to be?
A. All of our coaches are volunteers and get to pick the practice day that will work best for their schedule. We do understand this causes schedule conflicts, but volunteering to coach is the only way to guarantee practice days. Starters/Candies have one practice day a week. U8 and above will have two practice days a week.
Q. What days are games played?
A. Games are typically played on Saturdays between 9 AM and 2 PM. We do share the community park fields with many other sports groups. This means that we will have a few weekday games each season. Spring season typically has three-weekday games per team due to EPIC Cup tournament scheduling (not affiliated with SAY Soccer).
Q. I have registered my child, but I have not heard from their coach. What should I do?
A. Coaches usually start contacting their teams one week prior to the first practice. If practices are due to start in less than a week, and you have not heard from your coach, send an email to saysoccer.oxford@gmail.com.
Every season, we run into situations where a player's contact information was not entered correctly during registration or a parent has not completely finished the registration process. When this happens, we either do not receive your information from the Tri or we give your coach the incorrect contact information.
Q. Are the teams co-ed or gender specific?
A: The Candies division (U6) is always co-ed. The older divisions (U8, U10, U12, & U14) are gender specific during the Fall season and are co-ed during the Spring season. If we are not able to field enough gender-specific teams in the Fall, we will make teams co-ed.
Q. My child is an advanced player. Are they able to play up a division?
A. If parents feel that their child is physically and emotionally advanced enough to play with an older age group, we will allow the player to play up one division. Due to insurance reasons, players can not play up more than one division.
Q. My child is under 4 1/2 but is very coordinated. Can I sign him up for the Candies program?
A. We are not able to place children under the age of 4 1/2 in any of our programs at this time. We have tried to allow younger players, and have found that children under 4 1/2 get too overwhelmed playing with the 6-year-old kids and end up hindering the older kids' growth.
Q. I want/need my child to be on the same team as another player. How do I do this?
A. For any of our teams, we are able to place siblings (whose ages allow them to be in the same division) on the same team.
We are able to accommodate most special requests (i.e., transportation issues, special needs, etc.) for CandiesU6 and PassersU8 divisions since we play in-house year-round.
During the Fall season, we are required to do a random draft process for U10 to U14 teams and cannot accommodate most special requests. If you have a specific question about this, please email saysoccer.oxford@gmail.com.
Q. I want to get involved with the league. What can I do?
A. We are always in need of parent help. We specifically need parents to volunteer as Head Coaches or Assistant Coaches. Make sure to state that you are interested in coaching when you register your child.
If you are interested in becoming a referee, we try to offer a training program every year if there are enough people interested. If you are interested in becoming a referee, email saysoccer.oxford@gmail.com.
If you are interested in serving on the Board of Directors, email saysoccer.oxford@gmail.com to see what positions are open. Make sure to write why you are interested and state any specific skills you have to offer.
Q. Does Oxford SAY offer multi-kid discounts or scholarships?
A. We do offer discounts for families with multiple children. If you want to receive the multi-kid discount, you will need to register in person at the Tri.
If you need a scholarship for your child/children, please email us at saysoccer.oxford@gmail.com. We understand that youth sports can be expensive, so we try to have scholarships available for a few kids each season.
Q. Oxford SAY does not have a club team for my child's age group. What are my options?
A. If we feel that we can't provide a competitive team for a certain age group, we will not create a club team. Your child can play in the Recreational league, or try one of the other Premier teams in our region.
